All programs at La Boîte à soleil are accredited, which means that we have a license recognized by the Ministry of Education and that we follow the Ontario Day Nurseries Act in all our centres.

In addition, our programs and facilities are inspected annually by a Program Advisor from the Ministry of Education to ensure that the standards of our premises, health & safety, equipment, programming and teaching practices comply with the necessary requirements to renew our operating license. In compliance with these regulations we employ trained personnel “Early Childhood Educators” according to the ratios required by the Ministry of Education and we respect all child to educator ratios prescribed by the Act in all of our programs.

Child care rules in Ontario

Infants

I am an infant…

I may be new to this world but I already know what I need. I want the people that care for me to understand my way of communicating before I can even express what I have to say. It is said that the first two years of my life are crucial to my development.

I am beginning to be competent, curious and capable. So many things stimulate my senses all at once. Not only will my tiny body grow incredibly fast from one week to the other, I will also learn to accomplish many tasks as long as people support me along the way. My mind will start to retain information as soon as I am spoken to and the quality of care that I receive will be fundamental to the development of my personality. I am ready to discover the world around me. You can watch me stand up, then walk and then eventually jump with confidence into my life. With a little confidence, I will learn at La Boîte à soleil.

We request that you bring the following:
  • 2 weeks supply of diapers, you will be notified by the educator when this needs refilling;
  • A box of wet wipes;
  • Diaper ointment;
  • A transitional item such as a soother, a teddy, a blanket (if necessary);
  • A change of clothing (socks, pants, top);
  • A hat for playing outside;
  • 2 pairs of covered shoes (sneakers); one pair for interior play and one pair for exterior play that covers the foot completely;
  • Rain and/or snow boots (when necessary);
  • A rain coat or snow suit (when necessary);
  • Waterproof mittens (when necessary);
  • An image or photo of your family
Bottles:

All bottles, (when necessary) must be supplied by the parents. Be sure to conserve the milk in a cool place during the transport from home to the daycare. The milk must be fresh from that morning and you must supply enough to last through the entire day. The bottles will be returned to you rinsed only. Our educators are not responsible for washing or sterilizing the contents. The bottles must be prepared in advance by the parents as well as the extra supply of milk. All of the above must be clearly labeled with both of the child’s names on them.

N.B. It may be possible for an infant to eat food supplied by La Boîte à Soleil if the infant has reached a full capacity of eating at the table. This decision will be made in collaboration with the daycare supervisor.

Toddler

I am a toddler…

Ready or not here I come! All of my senses are in tuned to smell, feel, taste and explore the world around me. I work very every day to put a few words together to express my needs and desires.

I continue to become competent, curious and capable. I’m sure you’ve heard me say “yes”, “no”, “me” as I see fit. My tiny fingers are now able to slide a zipper closed, to tie buttons or to use scissors. Though I sometimes create messes, I also create wonderful memories. I leave many hand prints on the walls and in your heart. All I need is people around me who understand my behaviour and see the strengths in my weaknesses.

I really want to be guided in the right direction. (Psst! I am pretty sure the right direction leads directly to the playground!) With a little confidence, I will learn at La Boîte à soleil.

At least twice per day the children play outside at La Boîte à soleil, therefore your child should be dressed in clothing that is safe and appropriate for the season. Make sure that ALL of your child’s clothing and effects are labeled with both names.

Preschooler

I am a preschooler…

I am beginning to trace out my individuality. It is said that I am strong willed, but I am still quite sensitive. I absorb everything that surrounds me, and I am working to figure out on my own what works and what doesn’t work.

Every day I am becoming more and more competent, curious and capable. I promise that even when I am busy playing, I am still listening to you. I am expressing my emotions with short sentences. Soon I can have a conversation with you about space, numbers, and measures.

Linking concepts, tying shoe laces and making friends occupies all of my time. I am preparing myself naturally for school by accumulating new experiences and by learning to concentrate for longer periods of time.

I am so excited! I feel like I am ready to fly away, all I need is for someone to believe in me. With a little confidence, I will learn at La Boîte à Soleil.

Before & After School

I have graduated from daycare to kindergarten. I am a big kid and I am competent, curious and capable. I spend most of my day in class, but my parents need me to stay at school just a little while longer before going home. So, I can attend a program before and after school for kids from 4 to 12 years old. I can have fun and relax while doing a variety of activities, but I can also do my homework. I make my own choices!

With a little confidence, I am learning at La Boîte à soleil.

We request that you bring the following:
  • A pair of shoes for the daycare (not the school shoes)
  • An extra pair of snow pants for the daycare
